- Portal messages now come from [email protected] only.
- The former ontario.ca sender address is retired and should be deleted from contacts.
- Questions go to the LTB by email at [email protected].
Why this matters here
Every Toronto renter or building owner with a file at the Landlord and Tenant Board gets portal updates by email. From the afternoon of July 24, 2026, those messages will come from a different sender: [email protected]. The old ontario.ca version stops being used. If your mail service does not know the new sender, a notice about your own case can drop into junk.
The scale in Toronto
The city has 3,611 registered apartment buildings with 328,273 units. Private buildings put up in 2017 or earlier hold 243,016 of those units. That is roughly 74 per cent of all registered units in older private stock, where disputes about repairs, rent and arrears are common. The median registered building dates from 1962.
If you rent
- Add the new address to your contacts under a name you will recognize, such as LTB.
- Delete the old [email protected] entry so it does not cause confusion.
- Check junk or spam every few days while you have an open file, and mark any LTB message as safe.
If you own or manage a building
- Update the shared or office mailbox that receives portal mail, not just one staff inbox.
- Ask your IT provider to allow the sender or the whole domain, so filters do not block it.
- Tell anyone who files applications on your behalf about the switch.
The full step-by-step instructions, including what to do with a message already sitting in junk, are in the Tribunals Ontario notice.
